Positioning and Map Awareness in Blitz of Battle
Where you stand before the fight starts decides whether you win it. Positioning is the most undervalued skill in any MOBA, and in Blitz of Battle's fast 2v2 arena it's often the difference between a clean victory and an instant loss. A single bad position in a three-minute match leaves no time to recover. This guide makes positioning a practical, learnable skill — not vague advice to "stand in a better spot."
Why Positioning Decides Fights Before They Start
Fight in Blitz of Battle is often decided before the first ability lands — by where the four heroes are standing. A Marksman caught too far forward dies before dealing damage. A tank standing too far back fails to protect their partner.
Good positioning means your hero is always where it can do its job safely. And the enemy's isn't.
Position by Role
Tanks lead. You want to be the closest hero to the enemy, soaking damage and threatening engages so your partner stays safe. If you're not the frontline, you're not tanking.
Fighters flex. Sit just behind the tank, ready to dive in when the fight commits — or peel back to protect your partner if an assassin flanks.
Marksmen and Mages stay back. Your damage works from range. The moment you're within melee reach of an enemy assassin, you've positioned wrong. Ilyana (Marksman) should be at the maximum edge of her attack range at all times during a fight — never a step closer.
Assassins lurk. Position on the flank, out of the enemy's vision, waiting for the exposed moment. Selara shouldn't be in the frontline — she should be invisible until the exact second she strikes.
Spacing: The Gap That Keeps You Alive
Spacing is the distance you maintain between yourself and danger. The skill is keeping yourself just outside the range of the enemy's most threatening ability while staying close enough to contribute.
Ilyana positioning scenario: The enemy has a Cravius (Fighter) who wants to close the gap and delete you. Your job is to stay at the absolute edge of your attack range, moving backwards when he moves forward, and dealing damage the entire time. If he charges, you have a brief window to sidestep. If you stayed at proper spacing, you never take the charge cleanly — you were already moving.
Fragile heroes live and die on this discipline. A Marksman who maintains proper spacing wins fights unscathed. One who drifts two steps too close gets deleted before they can react.
Map Awareness on a Fast, Small Map
Map awareness means always knowing where all four heroes are — not just the one you're currently fighting. The most dangerous enemy is the one you can't see.
On Ephesus Ring (Action Zone) and Aztec Underground (Turret Blast), the maps are compact but flanking routes exist. An unseen Assassin is almost always preparing to strike from an angle you haven't checked.
Build this habit: glance around the arena every few seconds, especially before committing to a fight. If you can't see one enemy, assume they're about to appear where it hurts most — and adjust your position before they arrive.
Positioning When Ahead vs Behind
Your positioning should shift with the match state.
When ahead: Position safely and deny the enemy any chance to catch you out. Move away from flanking angles. There's no reason to take risks when the clock is running in your favour.
When behind: You may need a riskier position to force the fight you need before the clock runs out. Move into a more aggressive angle. Sometimes you have to take a bad position to create the opportunity you need.
Reading the match state and adjusting your spacing is advanced positioning in practice.
Drilling Positioning
Positioning improves through deliberate attention, not just accumulated playtime. For a few matches, focus on one thing only: never being the closest fragile hero to the enemy. Then add the habit of scanning for the unseen enemy before each fight. Layer habits one at a time.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Why does positioning matter in MOBAs?
Positioning decides which fights you can take and which abilities can reach you. In fast 2v2 matches, a single bad position often loses the fight before it starts — there's no time to recover.
Q: How do you avoid getting flanked in Blitz of Battle?
Maintain map awareness by scanning for the enemy you can't see before committing to a fight. Assume an unseen assassin is preparing to flank and position your fragile heroes behind your frontline.
Q: What is map awareness in a MOBA?
Map awareness is the habit of knowing where all four heroes are, not just your current target. It lets you anticipate flanks and adjust your position before a threat arrives.
Q: How do you position as a squishy hero?
Stay at the edge of your effective range, behind your durable partner, and never let yourself become the closest fragile target to the enemy. Spacing is what keeps fragile heroes alive.
Q: What is spacing in a MOBA?
Spacing is the distance you keep between yourself and danger — just outside the enemy's most threatening ability range while staying close enough to contribute your own damage.
Q: How does positioning change when you're behind in a match?
When behind you may need a riskier position to force a fight before the timer ends. When ahead, position safely and deny the enemy any chance to catch you out.
